Pet Pride 052: Mohawk Max

PETPRIDE

CameraCritters3

It's Max's turn on the limelight this week. Joe was having a stomach problem and would not come out of his "dog cave" (under the stairs). Fortunately, Max is in a good mood.

Love Max's mohawk-hairstyle. She's totally loving it, too!
I was surprised that she didn't go away when I pointed the camera at her. She's now more than six years old. Isn't she pretty?

I'm very worried about Joe. He hasn't eaten well for days and he refuses to eat without being prodded. It must have been the dog food that we bought last week. It wasn't expired when I checked the cans again. If he doesn't eat more tomorrow, we'll have to take him to the vet's.

Pet Pride 051: Separated at birth?

PETPRIDE

CameraCritters3

Hi. Max and Joe's mum here.

Sorry we've been quiet for several weeks. We have so much going on at home at the moment  and I could not find enough time to blog.  Now that our schedule has loosened up a bit, we are back to our blogging activity.

For this week's picture, I thought I'd share with you the one I took of Joe. He was being teased by my husband while I was making him sit still for a photo. I thought that it came out nicely though, whatchathink?

Joe wanted that ball!

I was looking at Joe's picture when it suddenly it hit me - I saw this face on tv the other night and I was right!

Can you see the similarity between Joe (top) and Sid (above)? It is uncanny, isn't it?
I could not believe my eyes! Joe looks like Sid, the sloth character in the movie Ice Age. Totally! I'm afraid, they're separated at birth.

A scene at home today, after lunch. I was about to start my craft work when this rascal jumped on me.

I guess that means I won't have anything done this afternoon :(

Pet Pride 049: Max and Joe cosy together

PETPRIDE

CameraCritters3

This is Max and Joe's mum again.
We are on holiday beginning tomorrow till Wednesday. It's the Pchum Ben festival in Cambodia. This is one of the important Buddhist holidays for it commemorates the spirits of the dead and it lasts for 15 days. Buddhists believe that during the Pchum Ben, the gates of hell are opened so the souls who "reside" there go out and walk on earth. They roam and search for food. So the living relatives go to the wats (temples) to offer food and prayers for them. In return for these offerings, the devout Buddhists earn merits for their next life. On the other hand, if the spirits weren't satisfied with the offerings, bad luck will befall on them.

So anyway, this is a big excuse for most Phnom Penh residents to go back to their hometowns for several days and be reunited with their families and relatives as they bring their offerings to their ancestors.

As for us, expats, it is also an excuse to go out of the city or the country for a holiday. But since we have two dogs, we could not just leave them behind without someone to look after them. So we stayed. I was organising my computer files and pictures when I got hold of this photo - of Max and Joe in 2009. I think this was the time when Max finally warmed up to Joe whom she was jealous of when Joe came to live with us.

I like the way Max's paw rests lovingly and gently on Joe's side and how Joe is seemingly enjoying the warmth and tenderness of Max.

Doggie language - what your dog is trying to tell you

Max and Joe's mum here.

The three of us were spending quiet time at home while dad is away at work. We were browsing through our favourite page on Facebook, Life withDogs, and something caught my attention. The doggies thought it's a good poster and suggested I post it here, for educational purposes, for dog-owners like me.

This is a really fun poster! Although my dogs are not Boston terriers but dogs are dogs and their language is universal. I can say that Max and Joe are doing a lot of stuff that I see on the poster above.

Now, it is sooooooooo nice to know that both Max and Joe have been saying "Hello. I Love You!" to me and my husband every morning we wake up. We get that every day! Awwwwww, my heart just melted. Yes, doggies, we love you both, too!

Guess who's the lovebug who loves a lot of butt-scratching from us, eh? Who else but Joe? Max has recently learned to do it as well!

N.B.  The above poster is an artwork by a flicker user named lili.chin. You can find it here and in her Facebook Page called Doggie Drawings (click the link).

Pet Pride 048: Lazy Joe

PETPRIDE

CameraCritters3

Hello furry friends, this is Max and Joe's mum. How is everyone doing today? Tropical storm Gaemi landed in Phnom Penh yesterday and it's been raining non-stop. It's been cool and wet since Friday and we have just been lazing around. Max and Joe are doing okay. Right now they are in opposite sides of the living room, curled into a ball. Meanwhile, I was trying to finish up some gift tags for our {online} craft shop when this rascal decided to curl beside me.
Joe kept on nudging me with his nose and scratching his body against me. It's his way of asking for a belly rub. Now, tell me, how can I finish my work?

Pet Pride 047: New collar

PETPRIDE

CameraCritters3

Joe's mum here. Joe's dad and I bought new collars for Max and Joe the other day. As usual, Max is not too keen on having her photo taken. She loves the new collar - it's green - but hates the camera. Unlike Joe here who is so demonstrative of his gratitude. He even posed for the camera. So here he is, Joe rockin' his new orange collar.

I think Joe's new orange collar suits him well!

Pet Pride 046: Doggies' Day Out

PETPRIDE

CameraCritters3

Look who's very happy to be going out for a roadtrip again? This "now" photo of Max (right) and Joe (left)  was taken very recently, two days ago to be exact.

Are you winking at me, Joe, hmmm?

Joe has improved a lot when traveling by car. He was making this squeaking noise and was restless in the car but,  half an hour later, he became relaxed. Max, on the other hand, is used to traveling. We took her everywhere, especially when we relocated for a work assignment in rural Cambodia  in 2006, when she was only about six months old. We took her to work, traveling sandwiched between me and my husband who drove the motorcycle.  How she loved it. We only acquired Joe in 2009 when we moved back to the city.

I have a similar photo taken of them some years ago. We just got back from the vet's after getting their yearly booster shots.

Look who has the longer tongue between the two!

The "then" photo was posted in Pet Pride (here). It is interesting to note that they are still in the same exact places, a few years later.

Notice any differences? Hahahaha.

Pet Pride 045: A portrait of Max

PETPRIDE

CameraCritters3

Max's turn for a portrait. Unfortunately, we do not have the fancy camera so I used my trusty point-and-shoot-digicam :)

I think Max has an interesting, if not, funny face. Lol.

Pet Pride 044: A portrait of Joe

PETPRIDE

CameraCritters3

My younger brother came over to our house yesterday. He always brings with him his nice DSLR camera. He took several portraits of Joe and Max - but Max really has never warmed up to him and to any camera. But Joe - he's the exact opposite. He loves the camera and, oh, how the camera loves him back!

Oops, not too close to the camera, Joe.
Yes, those big pair of ears and round eyes... it runs in the family! Lol.

Pet Pride 043: Outdoorsy Joe

PETPRIDE

CameraCritters3

It's the monsoon season here now but we do not have much rain yet. We thought that we should take advantage of the extended summer so we took Joe for an afternoon of ball-chasing at one of the empty lots near our place.

He seems to be enjoying it. Sniffing. Marking his territory. Running and barking. Chasing and fetching ball. It was a fun day for him. Naturally, he was totally exhausted after his dinner that night and he slept without having his evening treat, lol.

Hello, gang. We're back. Joe went out for a walk with his dad so here's Max instead. She's clearly not in the mood for photographs.

Six years old and still hasn't learned to warm up to the camera :(

Pet Pride 038: Siesta

PETPRIDE

CameraCritters3

Conversation between Joe and the neighbour's white dog. We'll call her Whitey.

Whitey: Arf! Arf! Hi, Joe...

Joe: Yo, Whitey. How's it going, mah frend?

Whitey: Not bad. Can you come down and play?

Joe: Wait. I'll ask mum.... Muuuuummm, can I go down and play?

Mum: I'm sorry, honey. Too hot. And it's siesta-time.

Joe: But muuuuummmm... Whitey's mum lets her play at this time...

Mum: Hush, now. You must take a nap. You're a growing dog... See Whitey? She will never grow bigger than she is now. That's because she doesn't take naps...

Joe: Errrmmmm, okay. (turning to Whitey). Sorry, Whitey. Mum says I gotta take a nap...

Whitey: Ngarf!

Mum: (to herself) Good boy! hehehehe.

Pet Pride 037: Smelly Mummy

PETPRIDE

CameraCritters3

I made this up, of course, but it sure does crack me up. Joe, you're such a hoot! Love, Mum.

Mum: Heya, Joe. What's up? How are you? Come shake my hand. {Offering my hand}

Joe: Uhm, Muuuum... {sheepish now} but... your hand is smelly!

Mum: ULK!!! {redfaced!}
